World Cup fever has hit our school

We have a display up in the library and there are several books on display for you to look at.  All our students are enthusiastic about this huge historic event. Go the mighty ABs!

August Reading Challenge winners and Fleur Beale visit

The winning house was Te Awakairangi with 121 points
followed by Orongomai with 70 points, Remutaka with 53 points and Tokomaru with 43 points.
The individual winner was Kiriana Tahana - 29
followed by Matt Butler, Theresse Ongi, Dorian McAdam and Liam McPherson
Thank you to all who took part.  I enjoyed hearing about the books that you all read.

Fleur was a great hit here. She talked about several of her books and told us that you have to give your characters problems to solve or else your stories will be boring. Here's a picture of her in the library.

Library week quiz

All year ten students will get to see Fleur Beale and many year nines with some other students who get permission from their subject teachers to attend.

E-Books

What are they?

Books downloaded onto E-Reading devices. There are many E-Reading devices coming out now and there are lots of books you can download onto these devices.

Did you know that your school library has an E-Reading device now?

Yes - we have a Kobo. It has lots of free books already downloaded. Most of the free books are classics and are out of copyright.

We also have four titles that we've downloaded and paid for.

Why have we got it?

Just to see how it works for now. We believe these devices will become the future of reading and we want to know how they work and who they will benefit.

Will we still have paper books?

Absolutely. Not everyone has an E-Reading device yet and many people still love books.

Can I have a look at the E-Reader?

Yes. Ask the librarian, but we will have to take your student ID card from you as security. You won't be able to take it out of the library, but you're welcome to use it in the library.

What's good about it?

The screen is pleasant to read from. It's nice to hold. You can enlarge the font. If you had your own you could take thousands of books with you all the time and it won't take up much space. It's good for the environment. I'm sure there are lots more. Try it out yourself and let me know what else you like about it.
